What is Smile Designing?
Smile design is simply a series of treatments your dentist puts together to help you achieve your smile goals. It is also know as cosmetic dentistry which include dentistry focused on esthetic of smile.
Some of the Treatments you may receive are
1. Teeth whitening – To brighten the smile.
2. Dental veneers – To correct mis-shapen, discoloured or spacing of teeth. Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain placed over natural teeth.
3. Dental implants – To replace missing teeth.
4. Invisaligner / orthodontic treatment – to straighten teeth, improving alignment and bite function.
5. Tooth coloured fillings – Used in a variety of ways to successfully repair chipped or ground down teeth.
6. Gum contouring – This procedure is used to treat uneven or “gummy smiles”(gummy smile is when you have extra gum tissue that covers parts of your teeth).
Procedure to Follow
The procedure involved in smile designing is simple.
- Firstly, the dentist will consider tooth recontouring to even out the smile. He may replace old crowns with the new type of full porcelain crowns.
- In most cases, the dentist will take an impression of the patient’s teeth and set models. Later, he will perform the changes on the models in wax. Then he will discuss the reluctant changes made.
- To change the contour or shade of the teeth, he may suggest porcelain veneers. After that he will look at the required changes to get a balanced symmetrical appearance.
- When the teeth get decayed, the dentist suggests implants. A dental implant procedure is a better choice for further dental treatment.
