Clear Aligners / Invisible Braces

WHAT ARE CLEAR ALIGNERS

Clear aligners are nearly invisible plastic shells that snap over your teeth. As you wear them, they apply gentle pressure on your teeth to gradually reposition them. Perhaps you’ve avoided orthodontic treatment because, as an adult, you don’t want to wear traditional metal braces. Fortunately, there may be a more discreet way to straighten your teeth: clear aligners. Clear or “invisible” aligners aren’t for everyone. Your orthodontist or dentist will help you decide what’s best for you. If you have mild to moderate orthodontic problems, aligner treatments may be the orthodontic solution you’ve been looking for. Clear orthodontic aligners are typically used for patients who have mild or moderately crowded teeth, or have minor spacing issues. Patients who have severe crowding or spacing problems — or severe underbites, overbites, or crossbites — may need more complex treatment. Japjee Dental Experts can help you determine which option is best for you.

    HOW DO CLEAR ALIGNERS WORK?

Clear aligners are sets of clear, thin, plastic-like trays that are custom-formed to fit your mouth and sequentially apply the pressure required to move the teeth. Typically, each aligner is worn for 1 week at a time, at least 22 hours a day, and moves teeth a fraction of a millimetre at a time.
Aligners must be removed when you eat or drink and when brushing and flossing. The number of aligners and treatment times needed to correct misaligned teeth varies based on the individual’s orthodontic issues and the movements needed to correct them. To find out if aligners are the best solution for you, schedule a consultation with Japjee Dental Expert.

    WHAT DO INVISIBLE ALIGNERS TREAT?

The most common conditions treated by aligners include:
Clear aligners may be a treatment option if you want straighter teeth and a less visible option to traditional braces.

    HOW DO THEY WORK?

Once a dentist or orthodontist decides how to correct your bite, they’ll make a plan for moving your teeth. If you get the clear aligners, you’ll be fitted for several versions that make slight adjustments to move your teeth over the treatment time.

They are made from a clear plastic or acrylic material and fit tightly over the teeth, but can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing. You will get a new aligner every few weeks to continue moving the teeth into the desired position.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO STRAIGHTEN TEETH USING INVISIBLE ALIGNERS?

Treatment time with invisible teeth aligners is based on how much the teeth need to be moved or rotated. The more your bite is off or the more crooked your teeth, the longer it will take, treatment usually takes between 10 and 24 months. But, if you are an adult who had braces as a child, and your teeth shifted slightly over the years, you may need invisible teeth aligners for as little as 10 weeks. Because invisible aligners are not as precise as traditional braces, some patients may require a “refinement” of their teeth using braces for a few months to make other, smaller adjustments at the end of the treatment.

WHY USE INVISIBLE ALIGNERS INSTEAD OF BRACES?

Avoiding “metal mouth” is not the only reason to choose a clear aligner. Unlike braces, aligners can be removed, making it easier to brush and floss well; that helps maintain better overall oral health. Teeth straightening is not just about having a great smile. Correcting crooked or misaligned teeth isn’t just about creating a picture-perfect smile. It can help protect the long term health of your teeth.

    COST OF CLEAR ALIGNERS

There are various factors that may affect the invisible aligners cost, including:

    The severity of misalignment:

The extent of misalignment is one of the major factors that affect the dental teeth aligners cost. More complex cases require longer treatment duration, which can increase the overall cost of clear aligners.

    Skills and experience of orthodontists:

More experienced orthodontists typically charge higher fees compared to less experienced counterparts.

    Material of the clear aligners:

The invisible aligner’s cost is also affected by the materials used in their construction. Various materials, such as polyethylene terephthalate glycol (PeT-G), polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), can be utilised. The prices of these materials may vary based on their qualities and associated benefits.

    Aftercare retainers:

After the clear aligners treatment, there’s a possibility that teeth might shift back to their original position. To prevent this, orthodontists often suggest wearing aftercare retainers upon completing the treatment.

    Cost of Diagnostic tests:

Before initiating orthodontic treatment, several diagnostic exams are usually required.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    What Are Invisible Braces?
Invisible braces, also called clear aligners, are custom-made, removable plastic pieces that fit snugly over your teeth. They use gentle force to gradually shift your teeth into the desired position. You can easily take them out for a few hours each day, allowing you to eat, take photos, and engage in other activities. These aligners are created specifically for each patient using digital scans or putty impressions.
Are Invisible Aligners As Good As Braces?
Aligners offer multiple advantages over traditional braces. They are discreet and offer better results in a hassle-free and fast manner. Teeth Aligners are also way more comfortable than traditional braces. However, patients still need to be very disciplined about wearing aligners for ensuring treatment success.
Do Invisible Braces / Teeth Aligners Really Work?
Invisible braces, also known as clear aligners or teeth aligners, are a convenient option that can be more effective in certain cases. They use transparent aligners that are less noticeable compared to traditional metal braces. This makes it easier for you to follow your treatment plan for as long as necessary, without any hassle.
How Long Does It Take To Recover?
Aligners are hassle-free and promise much faster results than traditional braces. Getting accustomed to aligners is easy and the recovery time is also shorter. But in some cases, it can vary depending on the teeth straightening needs and overall patient compliance. Ideally, recovery time for aligners is between 13-15 months.
    Are The Results Permanent?
The results are permanent only if patients practice proper aftercare. There is a natural tendency for teeth to relapse after teeth aligners are removed. Ideally, retainers are used to avoid any chances of relapse. Patients can either opt for either fixed or removable retainers to ensure the results are permanent.
Can You Eat With Invisible Braces?
The aligners or invisible braces are designed to gently and gradually move your teeth into their desired positions. They are strong enough to perform this task effectively. However, it’s important to note that they are not meant to withstand the pressure of biting and chewing. Therefore, you should always remove the aligners before eating anything, regardless of whether it’s a small snack or a full meal.
Are There Any Side-Effects Of The Treatment?
No, there are no side effects. Aligners are one of the safest orthodontics treatment. Further, a dentist will suggest aligners only after proper assessment of the current state of your smile. Chances of irritation and discomfort are extremely negligible and most patients get accustomed to aligners within 2-3 weeks.
What Is The Price Of Treatment?
Aligners are costlier than traditional braces. Further, aligners cost vary depending upon a patient’s smile restoration needs. However, considering its effectiveness in getting a perfect smile, the treatment is worth all its costs.
