World hypertension day is celebrated on 17th may. The theme for this year is “measure your blood pressure accurately , control it, live longer “. This theme gives importance to the timely detection of the disease and management.

Hypertension is a lifestyle disease as it is influenced by factors like diet, exercise, stress levels other behaviours . Other than this, genetics and certain other conditions do play a role.
CONNECTION BETWEEN GUM DISEASE AND HYPERTENSION
research has shown that gum diseases are linked with many health diseases like hypertension. In addition oral bacteria associated with gum diseases has been linked with inflammation within the heart valves and blood vessels .

Hypertension and oral diseases:
1. Hypertension has been linked to increased risk of gum diseases which can lead to tooth loss .
2. High BP increases gum infection making it more challenging to treat gum diseases

Oral diseases impact on hypertension.:
1. systemic infection untreated oral infection can spread systemically potentially affecting cardiovascular health . 2. Oral health issues can cause stress and anxiety which may contribute to hypertension .
